OPIS - Computer System Requirements

OPIS uses a web (i.e., browser-based) interface and a client-server database for data storage. Requirements for the web server, database server, and client are listed separately below; however, keep in mind that the servers may reside on the same physical computer. If your organization has a computer network but modest resources for acquiring and maintaining web and data servers, see the minimal requirements below.

Web Server
The OPIS web application is built with Microsoft's .NET Framework using ASP.NET. Therefore, it requires a computer running Internet Information Services version 5.0 or later with the .NET Framework installed. So, operating systems supported include Windows 2000 (Professional or Server) and Windows XP (Professional or Server when released).

Database Server
Our current OPIS offering is designed to use Microsoft's SQL Server (version 7 or 2000) for data storage. Microsoft's SQL Server Desktop Engine may also be used; this is a “light” version of SQL Server that Microsoft allows developers (including Concord) to redistribute, royalty-free.

If you are interested in using OPIS with a different database server, please give us a call. A version of OPIS that supports ORACLE databases is currently under development, and we will be happy to work with you if you have other requirements.

Client (Browser)
OPIS has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.1 and later) and Netscape (version 6.0). Other recent browsers that support JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets may also work with OPIS.

Minimal Requirements
OPIS is designed to work well with even a relatively modest computer system. A networked computer with Windows 2000 Professional will suffice. This computer can be configured to run both the web server (included with Windows 2000 Professional) and database server (using Microsoft's SQL Server Desktop Engine). At least a 500 MHz Pentium III (or equivalent) and 256mb of memory is recommended.

Please contact us if you have any questions about computer system requirements.
